The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Time flies! Can you believe it is the last month of 2014? We are almost at the half- year mark for the school year. I guess I could say time really does fly when your having fun! November is a blur with a season of Thanks for our blessings and let’s not for get our Veterans. It is a tradition at RMS for our seventh graders to choose a living Veteran of a war and interview them, write a report, and prepare a poster board in their honor. Then on Veteran’s Day, the Veterans and their families are invited to our school for a program in their honor. My class provides snacks that we have prepared and the poster boards are on display for everyone to enjoy!

As we headed into December, our Youth as Sweetgum had a spaghetti dinner after church to raise money for a trip to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We took a bus full of young people and several carloads to spend the day enjoying the Christmas shows, shops and don’t forget the rides in the pouring rain!

Will is in charge of tickets

And we're off to…..Dollywood!!!

Our Women at church have an annual Chinese Christmas Dinner and gift exchange. You wouldn’t believe how violent church women can become when gifts are involved. Right Sharon? We shared lots of great food, fellowship and memories to last us a year. It’s also a time to reflect on the past year and miss those who loved this celebration of sisters in Christ who are now celebrating with Him. Karen Webster and Lavonne Siler, you were remembered and missed! But we rejoice in your celebrating your first CHRISTmas with the KING of kings!

Lots of Gifts to choose from….

Give Thanks!!!!

Thanksgiving became a federal holiday in 1863 in the United States. President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens”, to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November each year.
We all know the story of the Pilgrims and the Native Americans who celebrated their first harvest in the New World in 1961. Actually, the colonists celebrated “thanksgiving” often with days of prayer thanking God for blessings of military victory, end of droughts, safety, and family. The feast lasted for three days. It was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.
Today, many of us are in such a hurry for CHRISTmas that we bypass Thanksgiving. What a shame to overlook a time of prayer and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father who has sustained us with such blessings of life.
Remember the story of the ten lepers in the scriptures? Jesus healed ten men of leprosy-a disease that ate away their flesh, caused great pain, separated them from their loved ones and all the necessities of life. Only one man came back to thank the Lord for his healing. Let’s not be one of the nine who forgot where their healing and blessings came from. Let us take time to kneel before our Father and thank him this Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Happy Birthday Clancy! Hello Opry!

What better way to celebrate your nineteenth birthday than a trip to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry!!!

October 19 was Clancy’s birthday, and she turned nineteen. We have decided that trips are memories that last, as opposed to sweaters that shrink, tear, or get worn and tattered, and jeans that fad and rip….you get our drift! Trips allow you to enjoy yourself at the moment and every time you think back, or look at a picture, or hear a song, you are reminded of that brief time in life when you enjoyed time with those you love.

Our men baled on the trip, so it was strictly a ladie’s trip….with Cam of course!

We checked out the hotspots.

Found some sweets!

Went to the Opry!

Little Jimmy Dickens 94 and goin' strong!!!!

Played….

Centennial Park

Even Snoopy enjoyed a delicious meal at the Cheesecake Factory for Aunt C's Birthday!

Of Course Cam spotted some cheerleaders at the table behind us at the Rain Forest Cafe!

And had such a good time that Cam has decided to make Nashville home….when he is an opry star of course a few years from now!

Happy Fall Ya'll!!!!

I love this time of year! October signals the beginning of Fall and the holiday season. It is also recognized as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” and I encourage each of you to take time to get your yearly mammogram and take care of yourself so you can continue taking care of others.

It’s been a while since my last post. I have been busy trying to keep up with the season. With football games, church dinners and youth outings, school in full swing and a freshman in college, and an 18 month-old grandson, I have been overwhelmed with busy!

At the end of September, I had the pleasure of helping with the “Cancer Sucks Softball and Cornhole Tournament”. This is an annual event, now in it’s fourth year, and I have been blessed to help with concessions each year. This year’s event raised a total of $15,957! Which meant each recipient received a total of $2400 toward medical expenses. Graham County is so blessed to have a group of young men and women that want to help those that are struggling with this terrible disease and the hardships it causes their families. What a great place to live!

RMS Field Trip!!!!

Fall is an amazing time to take our seventh graders to the Hooper Bald! At an elevation of 5,429, this grassy mound is a perfect field trip. It is hard to believe that many of our students have never been to the Bald and experienced the beauty of our county. With the leaves changing colors and the cooler temperature, it is one of the best memories we make with our students all year!

We load the yellow school buses and head out with our jackets, gloves, blankets and picnic lunches. The drive takes about 45 minutes to arrive at the parking area and then we hike up the side of the mountain to the top. The temperature in Robbinsville was around 45 degrees which means the temperature on the Bald is probably 20 degrees colder (Do the math lol). It was COLD! But it was an amazing day…until the rain came!!!!
